Story

La Motte was acquired in 1970 by the late Dr. Anton Rupert, an internationally respected industrialist who established a global business empire and was held in high regard as a committed conservationist. Rupert’s daughter, Hanneli Rupert-Koegelenberg inherited the farm. Formerly one of South Africa’s leading mezzo-sopranos, she is also the inspiration behind La Motte’s programme of Classical Music Concerts presented from the Historic Cellar on the estate.

Her Husband, Hein Koegelenberg is the Chief Executive Officer of La Motte Wine Estate. His passion for wine is reflected in the estate’s abundant wine accolades.

Tasting Notes

Pair the La Motte Sauvignon Blanc with “Papageno’s Aria” from Puccini's Mozart’s Die Zauberflöte. The aria's flirtatious and lively melody aligns beautifully with the wine’s crisp acidity and refreshing texture, enhancing the experience of this vibrant aperitif. The wine's bright, elegant character resonates with this playful duet, making for a captivating and delightful pairing.

Food Pairing

With its natural acidity and acute texture, the La Motte Sauvignon Blanc pairs beautifully with seafood, light pastas and spicy Chinese and Thai dishes. This white wine also goes extremely well with acute seasonings, and salty eats such as pre-dinner canapés. A natural partner to goat’s cheese.

Wine Makers Note

The grapes for this wine come from five different growing regions: Franschhoek (25%), Stellenbosch (50%) and Cape South Coast (25%). After fermentation in stainless steel tanks at a controlled temperature of 14°C, the wine rested on the lees for a further three months and was blended with 8% Sémillon for more complexity and fullness.
