Story
Boschendal is one of the oldest, most iconic Wine Estates in South Africa.
Nestled in the picturesque valley of the Cape Winelands, with over 330 years of winemaking tradition, they carefully craft each of their award-winning wines for you to enjoy.
Tasting Notes
Pair this Shiraz, with its deep black fruit and pepper spice, with the aria "Ombra fedele anch'io" from Riccardo Broschi's Idaspe, famously performed by countertenors. The dark berries, mulberries, and plum on the nose, along with exotic spice and oak, mirror the emotional depth and complexity of the aria. As the wine unfolds with rich black fruit, pepper spice, and silky ripe tannins, it mirrors the countertenor’s high, ethereal voice: both rich and delicate, full of grace and elegance. The lingering fruit on the finish complements the aria’s haunting beauty.
Food Pairing
Pair with roasted lamb or a richly flavoured roasted vegetable moussaka. The savoury layers of eggplant, zucchini, and a béchamel sauce, complement the earthy flavours of the wine.
Wine Makers Note
Grapes from each vineyard were fermented separately in stainless steel for an average of 12 to 16 days, and most tanks were left on the skins for an additional one to two weeks, depending on taste. Specially selected cool-climate sites were made in the traditional Syrah style by allowing partial fermentation on stalks to promote savoury spice and pepper. The young wines went into barrel only after malolactic fermentation – 100% went into 300-litre oak barrels comprised of 30% new barrels and the wine was matured for 14 months.
